Portugal vs Holland Euro 2012 preview

The eyes of the sports world will be on Portugal and the Netherlands today at Euro 2012 when the two world football powers play a pivotal group-stage match.

It’s judgment day in the group of death. While victory is a requirement for the Netherlands to advance, Portugal can advance to the semifinal with a win or the combination of a draw and a Denmark loss to Germany.

When: Sunday, June 17 at 2:45 p.m. ET

Player to Watch for Portugal: Cristiano Ronaldo

Christiano Ronaldo

Superstar winger Cristiano Ronaldo has no goals scored and zero assists at Euro 2012, and even though he’s been a factor in games with his pace and attacking runs, he hasn’t changed a match with a big goal yet.

Ronaldo will be under the microscope on Sunday, and if Portugal were to lose with Ronaldo playing poorly, the reputation of the Real Madrid star would take a hit.

Player to Watch for Netherlands: Arjen Robben

Arjen Robben

The Netherlands winger has played poorly at Euro 2012 and is the target of blame for many Dutch fans who are disappointed in their team’s performance thus far.

Robben needs to improve his play or the Netherlands won’t defeat Portugal on Sunday. He needs to attack a weak Portugal defense and use his ability to create scoring chances for the Dutch to have success.

Euro Cup 2012: Iker Casillas and the Tournament's Top Five Goalkeepers

Throughout Euro 2012, just like any major international tournament, there will be plenty of jaw-dropping passes, insane goals, and stout defenses.

However, one part of the game that can sometimes be overlooked and taken for granted is superb goalkeeping.

Goalies can make or break a team's chances of winning, as their composure can never slip and they always have to be on their toes.

With that being said, there are a few teams who are sitting pretty with ridiculous goalkeepers as their last lines of defense.
