Midnight Martini returns to flavour with solid win in Cranbourne Cup

THE team of Mark Kavanagh and Michael Rodd combined to win today’s $200,000 Cranbourne Cup with Midnight Martini just six days before they team up with December Draw in next Saturday’s Caulfield Cup.

“She’s a talented mare and it’s good to see her back flying. The blinkers on made a difference and she really sprinted away from them in a good return to form," Kavanagh said.Kavanagh said this time last year he was trying to get her into the Melbourne Cup but she broke down in the Lexus Stakes at Flemington.
Kavanagh said he would set her for the Matriarch Stakes (2000m) on the final day of the Flemington carnival.Midnight Martini took over on turning and sprinted away to win by three lengths over Streets Away, with Streaky Fella third.

Consistent Adelaide sprinter Obsidian Dragon took out the other feature race at Cranbourne, the $100,000 Apache Cat Classic (1000m).
