PSY Watch: Will 'Gangnam Style' Reach No. 1 on the Hot 100?

With more than 300 million views on YouTube, PSY's "Gangnam Style" has inspired parodies by hot moms, Gandalf the Grey, "My Little Pony," Navy men and marching bands. The song is so popular that it rose to No. 2 last week -- behind Maroon 5's "One More Night" -- but only time will tell if PSY can gallop his way to No. 1.

If he does reach the top, PSY has another surprise in store for his fans, and people across the world will be seeing a lot more of the South Korean rapper. "If it ranks number one in the Billboard chart, then I will perform 'Gangnam Style' topless in a place where everyone can watch," Psy said in a news conference, Reuters reports.

But will we see PSY strip down to show off his horse dance? We'll be keeping you updated through the weekend and next week, tracking the ups and downs of "Gangnam Style" to see if PSY fans are in for a shirtless show.

OCTOBER 3:

Sorry, PSY fans. Looks like the K-pop star won't be performing "Gangnam Style" shirtless -- at least not this week. The boys of Maroon 5 maintained their lead at No. 1 on the Hot 100, keeping PSY at No. 2. The race was extremely close. "One More Night" bested "Gangnam Style" by fewer than 500 overall chart points, after "Night" won last week by approximately 3,000 points. Better luck next time, PSY!

OCTOBER 2:

PSY toppled another milestone on the evening of Oct. 1, when he passed one million "likes" on Facebook. The "Gangnam Style" star then stopped by "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Oct. 2 to perform his hit song -- not topless, but in his usual blue blazer. Watch the performance below
OCTOBER 1:

Here's today's update, while wondering why PSY fans aren't called (good-naturedly, of course) ... "PSY-chos." i.e., crazy for PSY! Shouldn't they/we be? How can we make that happen? "PSY-chos!!!"

Anyway, "Gangnam Style" is now up to 34 million in all-format audience, according to Nielsen BDS, through a bit more than five days of the Radio Songs tracking week. (The chart's monitoring week runs through tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 2.) Maroon 5's "One More Night," meanwhile, the Hot 100's current No. 1, ups its total to 87 million on the building chart. The songs were at 27 million and 69 million, respectively, as of yesterday afternoon.

Based on those trends in airplay, plus the projected sales from industry forecasters late last week ("Style" perhaps approaching 300,000; "Night," 200,000), it appears even more likely today that "Night" will remain at No. 1 when highlights of the Hot 100 are revealed Wednesday (Oct. 3) on Billboard.com.

Will PSY go topless this week due to a possible No. 1 Hot 100 ranking? For now, keep your shirt on, PSY.
