Nepal’s challenge hangs by a thread after Ireland loss

KATHMANDU, AUG 16 - Nepal lost their second straight match in the ICC U-19 World Cup as they lost to Ireland by 14 runs in Brisbane on Wednesday, virtually ending their chances of a further progress in the 16-team tournament.
Chasing a modest target of 185, Nepal were bundled out for 171 runs in the final over of the match. The game played at the Endeavor Park saw Ireland winning the toss and electing to bat first. Shane Getkate topscored with 47 runs, followed by Andy  McBrine who scored 41 runs. Tyrone Kane scored an unbeaten 39 runs of 49 balls.

Nepali bowlers had put in a disciplined performance to restrict the Irish to 185 runs in the 50 overs.  Prithu Baskota, Rahul Bishwakarma, Bhuvan Karki and Avinash Karn claimed two Irish wickets each.
Skipper Baskota had got the early breakthroughs when he caught and bowled Robin Kelly in the third over and then bowled out Ryan Hunter in the seventh over to put pressure on Ireland. Ireland were constantly being pegged back by the Nepali bowlers as they were unable to increase their run rate and so were only able to post 185 runs.
The Nepali innings started out in the worst way possible as opener Sagar Pun got out early after scoring only eight runs.  George Dcokrell took two wickets off two balls to heap the pressure on Nepal.  Nepal were unable to recover from their bad start as the match slipped out of their hands. Top scorer Rahul Vishwakarma scored 32 runs from 44 balls to give Nepal some hope but it was a little too late as Nepal were bowled out for 171.
Nepal to face England in final group matchNepal will now face England in their third and final match of the tournament on Thursday.  England are currently second in the group with a win and a loss.  Australia have already qualified with a 100 percent record.
Nepal’s only chance of qualifying for the next match is if they beat England by a huge margin. Ireland have already been eliminated from the tournament after losing two and winning one match.
